Only 400 Heritage models built in 2105 and 2016 to commemorate the end of production of the original Land Rover, first built in 1948. Sadly this is not a genuine example – but at least it has the HUE 166 number on the nearside front wing, replicating the registration number of the oldest surviving Land Rover. The genuine Heritage Defenders were all finished in the same Grasmere Green metallic paint with a contrasting white roof, reminiscent of the paint job on the original HUE 166. The Heritage Defenders were available in short-wheelbase 90 (as seen here) and long-wheelbase 110 versions, and had egg-crate grilles, heavy duty steel wheels and silver-painted door hinges and bumpers. If we ever see a real one in the wild, we’ll try to get a photo and bring it to you.
The last old-style Land Rover rolled off the Solihull production line on 29 January 2016. Would Land Rover ever make a new one? And would it continue the honourable tradition of the original? Let’s see, in the next Slider…
