Lombardi, Land Speed and Legacy – The 2025 Autumn Seminar

The SAHB Motoring Literature Fair, AGM and Autumn Seminar was held this year on Sunday 19 October at the Bromsgrove Hotel and Spa. This followed an informal dinner the evening before at the same location, where members and partners could natter about cars and (a few) other things.

We also took the opportunity to present the SAHB’s Malcolm Jeal Award for the best motoring article written in the English language.  That report will be in the News section.

Plenty of baragins at our annual autumn literature fair.

After the AGM and the presentations, we were regaled with three talks – and a panel discussion that continued a successful format introduced at the 2024 Spring Seminar:

Jon Saltinstall:  Lella Lombardi (the remarkable story of the only woman to score a point in a Formula 1 Grand Prix

Guy Loveridge: The restoration of the 1927 1000 HP Sunbeam (a progress report, with wonderful period film, on the preparation for the return to Daytona Beach in 2027 after 100 years

Christianne Ireland: Ireland Motor Sports (The remarkable story of the racing and family history of the great Innes Ireland, related by his daughter, and the organisation in her father’s name that she runs today to develop young people, many of them underprivileged, to be able to work in motor sport

Panel discussion: Women on Wheels – Hosted by Guy Loveridge  with a distinguished panel of experts, on all aspects of the challenges faced by women in this male-dominated sport.

Our thanks are due to all the speakers, the organisers from the SAHB and the staff of the Bromsgrove Hotel and Spa, who all helped to make this a successful event.
