The Horseless Carriage Exhibition, 1896-2016 – 7/8 May 2016

The De Dion Bouton Club UK is organising a re-enactment of the original London Motor Show at Imperial College in Kensington on 7/8th May 2016, exactly 120 years since it was held at The Imperial Institute, as it was known at the time, by Harry Lawson’s nascent Motor-Car Club.

Nick Pellett, one of the Founders of the DDBUK and organiser of this important event, has sent us this title page of the programme, which tells us the timings of the preview and of the event itself on the Saturday and Sunday.

There will be 7 static vehicles inside the college atrium, all of them dating from around 1896.

Outside, there will be a further dozen working examples of steam, electric and petrol vehicles from 1896 to 1904.

The exhibition is free – and aimed mainly at the general public, to extend knowledge of motoring history to a wider audience than those like us, who probably already know too much!

15,000 visitors are expected, and we hope you can call in.

A detailed event programme is being produced, and the original HCE 1896 programme will be reproduced in full:

1896 exhibition programme cover 800

Both can be purchased at the exhibition.
